Privacy Policy

Argus is a private, single-user personal finance application. It is operated by its owner for their own use and is not offered as a service to the public. There are no other users, no customers, and no visitors whose data is collected.
What data Argus holds
With the owner's explicit authorisation, Argus stores:
- Bank and card data from Plaid — account names, balances, and transactions, for accounts the owner connects.
- Invoice data from QuickBooks — invoice numbers, amounts, dates, customer names, and balances, for companies the owner connects via Intuit's OAuth flow.
- Data the owner enters — budgets, savings goals, categories, and business entities.
- Passkey credentials — public keys only. Argus never sees a password or a biometric.
How it is stored
Data is held in a private PostgreSQL database. Access and refresh tokens for Plaid and QuickBooks are encrypted at rest with AES-256-GCM under a key held only in the application environment, and are decrypted only at the moment a request is made to that provider.
Who it is shared with
Argus does not sell, rent, or share financial data. There is no advertising, no third-party analytics, and no tracking. Data reaches exactly three categories of third party, each of which the owner chooses to enable:
- Plaid and Intuit (QuickBooks), as the sources of the data, under their own privacy policies.
- Vercel, which hosts the application and its database.
- Anthropic, but only if the optional merchant-lookup feature is switched on. When it is, and only for a transaction the owner has not been able to categorise automatically, Argus sends the merchant's statement descriptor, the transaction amounts at that merchant, the nickname of the account it was charged to, and the owner's own category names, in order to get back a description of what the business is. No account numbers, balances, credentials, or personal identifiers are sent. The feature is off unless an API key is configured, and its answer is only ever a suggestion the owner confirms.
Disconnecting and deletion
A QuickBooks company can be disconnected at any time from the Business screen. Disconnecting revokes the grant with Intuit so Argus can no longer read from that company. Plaid connections can be removed the same way. Because Argus is single-user, the owner can delete any or all stored data at will, and deleting the application deletes the database with it.
